Q: What do I need to set up a backup system with PC Backup from LetsHost?
In order to avail of our online backup service, all you need is an internet connection. This completely eliminates the need to purchase backup hardware systems and/or tape, disk media. And because our systems are fully automated, you don't have to spend valuable time swapping disks or tapes in or out of expensive equipment.
Q: What if we already have a backup system?
If you are currently using alternate systems to back up to tape, zip disk, CD-RW, or other form of media, the process is probably not completely automated. An employee must change the disks, tape or media periodically and then manually verify that backups are completed successfully. LetsHost's PC Backup system bypasses this tedious process. Your backup is 100% automated, and backup success/failure reports are sent to you by email daily. You can retrieve or verify your files on our servers, from virtually any location in the world that has an internet connection.
Q: How long will an online backup take?
The initial backup will alway take the longest time, and can vary from minutes to hours to days, depending on the volume of data being backed up. This first backup is called trhe "seed" backup. Once the first full backup is completed, our server compares its file versions with the file versions on your local computer and then backs up only those files that have been changed or modified since the last backup. This minimizes bandwidth overhead and can take as little as 2 minutes to complete. Transfer speeds, of course, depend on the speed of your internet connection - we can accommodate speeds ranging from old fashioned dialup all the way up to T1 corporate LAN connections.
Q: How secure are my online backups?
PC Backup from LetsHost uses Secure 128-bit SSL communication. All communications between the PC Backup from LetsHostServer and your computer are carried on a 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) channel. Although all your backup files travel through the internet, eavesdroppers have no knowledge or no way of knowing what data has been exchanged. Your data is 100% secure.
What happens if I loose data from my PC?
Restoring your data can be done via our web based interface and downloaded to your computer. This can sometimes be impractical if large volumes of data are involved. If you need to restore an entire hard disk, LetsHost can restore your data to a DVD or Hard Disk drive and send this by courier to you on a next day delivery service. Your data can then be restored using our restoration software.
If this service is required a €50.00 fee may be applied. If a hard drive is dispatched, a deposit may also be required.
